Midterm Strategy
My strategy, loosely inspired by observing my roommate Rushi. This has worked for all my midterms so far this quarter.
- Go to all lectures. Take good notes. On paper, not computer. Label them with lecture number in addition to date (it’s useful)
- Discussion isn’t actually necessary, and rarely useful. Try not to miss the quizzes, though. (Oops)
- Attend any review sessions. Pay attention.
- Two days before the midterm, start reviewing notes.
- The night before the midterm, do any homework/practice tests/other preparation. If this is a math class, and homework is not actually required, this is the time to do it all.
- That’ll keep you up late. Don’t get up for early classes on the day of the midterm, you need sleep more.
- Get up an hour before the midterm. Shower, get ready.
- Caffeinate. 125-150mg on an empty stomach seems to work well. Take it up to 200mg for math.
- Roll in.
- Ace.
- Roll out.
That’s how you take a midterm, Rushi-style.
