About me
Howdy. I’m Joe Auricchio, a student at UC San Diego. I’m studying for my Masters degree in CS, specializing in computer architecture, with an eye toward embedded systems and operating systems and a few furtive glances at security. My undergraduate degree was also from UCSD, in CS, with minors in Cognitive Science and Japanese Studies.
I work primarily in systems & embedded programming. In the past I’ve done web application programming and general sysadmin. At The Dini Group, I designed high-speed circuit boards and learned how to write a Linux device driver. Last summer, I interned at VMware, in the Platform Infrastructure group, working on VMX performance. I’m currently at ViaSat working with security-related embedded systems.
I enjoy listening to music of many kinds on high-quality headphones and have sunk quite a lot of money into them. Everybody needs a hobby, right? Some are just a bit further off the deep end than others.
I like rock climbing. I still don’t have much of a rack: just some quickdraws and a cordelette. My next purchase will be a rope. After that I’ll learn how to place trad gear. I’m at 5.10A level; maybe 10B on a good day. I usually climb at Vertical Hold in San Diego. I like Big Rock (Perris) and Joshua Tree.
